Every Tom, Dick and Mary who has a website knows that to have sales you have to have traffic, but not just any traffic it has to be targeted traffic.

What is targeted traffic? It is just visitors to your website that are interested in what your website is about. For instance, men and women interested in buying jewellery will find jewellery websites interesting. 

How do you go about getting targeted traffic I hear you ask? The following are some tried and true methods: 

Forums: Subscribe to forums that discuss your subject. Answer questions and join in the debates there. Become an authority in your field. Then with each article response you write have a discreet link to your website in the signature file. What can be placed in your signature is frequently decided by the forum moderators. Do not spam the forum or you will be stopped from posting. This is one of the most fruitful ways  of getting no cost traffic as those who click your link have already read and enjoyed your style.

Write Articles: Writing articles like this one and submitting them to article directories and ezines has become one of the favorite ways of getting no cost traffic to your site. It's also a great way to get one way links to your website using the author's resource box.

Linking from/to other websites: Contact website owners that have comparable but not competitive websites to yours, ask them for a reciprocal link from their website to yours. That's a little too frequently for me, but everyone to their own.

E-Books: Commonly used, these are generally short, no cost informational ebooks for your clients and for others to give away for no charge if they leave your links in the ebook itself. You can position links back to your website in the ebooks you sell or provide to your customers.

Joint Ventures: Contact online marketers looking for new products to sell. They often have large mailing lists with hungry to buy customers. Normally they are ready to email their list for a percentage of the sale price. This works especially well with informational products. It has several advantages. It can provide a very sizeable boost to both your sales and mailing list within a very short time.

When you combine these techniques and apply them consistently over time you will find a rich well-spring of targeted traffic coming to your website. This, combined with quality products will ensure the success of your online business.
